If you're new to surfing and looking for an exceptional Costa Rica Surf Camp, then Samara Surf Camp is an excellent choice. With its consistent, mellow waves and expert instructors, you’ll be riding your first wave in no time. Our beginner surf lessons are designed for those new to surfing, teaching the basics of paddling, balance, and wave riding. No experience necessary — just bring your enthusiasm!
These surf packages ensure you’ll be able to repeatedly catch waves, practice your movements, and perfect your skills. and offer all day waves for surfing, even outside of planned lesson times.
What is the best Costa Rica surf camp for intermediate surfers?
If you've surfed before but still prefer to have an instructor in the water:
We suggest the Samara Surf Camp, Tamarindo Surf Camp or Tamarindo Budget Surf Camp. The waves are appropriate for getting more independent in the water without being overwhelming. These surf packages ensure you’ll feel more confident in the water on your own, catching your own waves, forming and reinforcing good habits and positioning, and learning new skills.
If you're comfortable on your own in the water and are looking to enhance your skills like going down the line, mobility, and turns:
- We suggest the Samara Surf Camp, Tamarindo Surf Camp or Tamarindo Budget Surf Camp. The waves are appropriate for learning to read the waves, and have enough power to allow you to make adjustments without overpowering you as you learn. These surf packages ensure you’ll be able to repeatedly catch waves and practice your skills and movements, and learning new skills.
- We also find that Nosara Surf Camp between November - February consistently offers appropriate waves for our intermediate surfers but in March-August our intermediate surfers sometimes find the waves too big due to larger swell conditions which we won't know until the dates leading up to the camp.
What is the best Costa Rica surf camp for advanced surfers?
If you're experienced being in the water and surfing multiple breaks on your own and are looking to learn or perfect your maneuvers, mobility, coordination, positioning and timing:
- We suggest Tamarindo Surf Camp or Tamarindo Budget Surf Camp for a range of waves within walking distance to practice on.
- We suggest Nosara Surf Camp or Santa Teresa Surf Camp for guests who are accustomed to stronger, larger, and more consistent green waves with more current and who know they won't need to seek out smaller waves if there is swell OR who are willing to practice in strong white water or on inside waves in the case of swell. These locations have consistently larger waves than other camps and little variety available nearby, so it is important to be honest about your skills when booking these locations.
- If you are an advanced surfer looking for an option that allows you to move based on the tides and swells, you should consider our famous Build Your Own Trip option and take advantage of our local surf pro's expertise for the surf trip of a lifetime!
