Private Transportation in Costa Rica

Shared Transportation in Costa Rica
For shared transportation, shuttles, and transfers in Costa Rica, we will usually pick you up & drop you off from your accommodations, but occasionally certain spots are outside of the service pickup/drop off zone and may require that we organize an additional taxi service to a meeting point.
- Pick up times are usually set (or within a narrow timeslot), limited pick up options each day.
- Save money (usually it is cost effective for 1-3 travelers, but between 3 & 4 you should consider private for cost)
- Shared service makes stops to pick up and drop off all guests, making travel time higher than the direct private transport.
- Limits on luggage or extra bag fees may apply.
Public (Ground) Transportation in Costa Rica
If you're on a budget, want an adventure, and have all the time in the world, public transportation might be the right option for you in Costa Rica!
- Least expensive but most time consuming option.
- Makes stops frequently but does not usually offer restroom or food stop (there are a few exceptions)
- Does not go to all destinations directly, you may have to change vehicles multiple times to get to the correct destination.
- Buses are prone to break down and wait times can be very long.
- Not all buses have air conditioning, and the heat can be overwhelming
- Drivers do not always remember or remind you when to get off for non-programmed stops
- You may need to pay extra for certain luggage or it may not be allowed at all, depending on the driver
- Theft is not uncommon in public transportation: Always keep your bags and valuables on your lap in sight (not overhead bins or below you)
- We suggest Spanish language skills for public transport as it is easy to end up in the wrong place, miss your connection, or not know how to make your transfers to arrive and being able to communicate effectively will be important.
