Our surf camp is located right in the middle of the town of Playa Sámara, where our home base is located, with the best waves to learn to surf in all of Costa Rica!

Not only is Sámara Surf Camp just 100m from the beach, it is also tucked away from the street with a private pool just for hotel guests, lush gardens for lounging, and a traditional rancho where a buffet breakfast is served daily.  The connection to nature is undeniable.  We believe you don’t have to be removed from society to relax and unwind, as long as you’re in the right spot to mix culture with nature.

It is not set in stone and is only meant to give you a general idea of the basic itinerary of included items.  You can see there is SO much free time and flexibility for you to do your own thing or add extra activities if you are interested.  You will receive a final personalized detailed itinerary based on your chosen included activity, dates, lessons for the appropriate tides/swells, and any add-on activities one week prior to your arrival.

Day 1 – Sámara Surf Camp ARRIVAL DAY!

~10 am – 3 pm Arrivals to LIR (arrive any time this day, but preferably before 3 pm so you are on time for the Welcome Meeting even if there are delays)

Land in the tropics and take off all those layers of winter clothes, when you arrive at LIR, Liberia Guanacaste Airport in Costa Rica.  Pass immigration and get your passport stamp from Costa Rican authorities, grab you bag and meet your private transport in front of the airport arrivals to head to the hotel in Playa Samara!

~6 pm Welcome Meeting

~7 pm Dinner

(We’ll choose a different place to eat each evening for variety – you’re welcome to join in or branch off on your own)!

Absolutely!  After you book your camp, we will send you a list of options and pricing for activities /services you can choose to add on to make your Sámara surf camp even BETTER!  Some past surf camp activity options include:

What are my extension options?

Which international airport is closest to Sámara Surf Camp?

The airport included for roundtrip ground transportation is Liberia – Guanacaste – Daniel Oduber (LIR).

Anyone choosing to fly into/out of San Jose – Juan Santamaria (SJO) will be responsible for additional transport costs and should plan to arrive at least one day early to provide ample time to arrive for the Welcome Event and may choose to stay an extra night in San Jose to avoid any delays / missed flights due to traffic en route since it is a long distance.

Is Sámara Surf Camp all inclusive? / Can I get lunch & dinner included?

No, this is not an all inclusive resort/package.  We used to offer this as an all-inclusive trip, but our guest feedback showed people preferred to explore the many restaurants just steps from the hotel and right in town!  You can check out our Costa Rica FAQs page for information on budgeting for meals but also please let us know if you have any concerns, we are happy to help make sure you are comfortable with your stay!

Sámara Surf Camp Cancellation Policy

Your Surf Camp in Samara has two parts:

1) Non-refundable: $250

• This deposit is non-refundable if you cancel your trip at any point in time after receipt of payment in order to cover the administrative needs related to registration, planning, & processing.

2) Refundable Balance (with 60 day notice)

• Aside from the $250 non-refundable payment, the balance of the surf camp payment is refundable for cancellations requested by email to CRsurftrip@gmail.com by 11:59 EST at least 60 days prior to arrival.
• Within 60 days of Surf Camp Start Date, balance payments are non-refundable.

If we must reschedule Surf Camp for alternate dates for unexpected reasons out of our control:

If you CAN make the rescheduled dates:

Your payments will be transferred to those dates and any difference in price will either be charged to you (in the case of an increase in price) or returned to you (in the case of a decrease in price).

If you can NOT make the rescheduled dates:

Your payments may be used as a credit available for 1 year from the original trip date.
