Our beachfront resort for this surf camp is located right in the middle of the town of Tamarindo, one of the most famous in all of Costa Rica!  Multiple restaurants, banks, shopping, nightlife, the beach, and more are seconds away from your door and it is an international hub, offering nearly any type of dining you desire, including, of course, our delicious traditional Costa Rican cuisine.

What’s available on site at the surf camp?

The resort is in front of the beach and surrounded by lush gardens with ample seating and space to lounge between activities.  You won’t believe you’re right in the center of it all as soon as you step onto the property where you’ll be whisked away into perfectly kept gardens, sun loungers to relax and let your stress melt away.  When you’re ready to connect back to civilization, you’ll find all the offerings of a typical town like shopping and restaurants just steps from the entrance!  There is no better location in Tamarindo!

Sample Itinerary (Days and Times May Vary)

Day 1 – ARRIVAL DAY!

~10 am – 3 pm Arrivals to LIR

Start your camp off RIGHT!  You land at LIR, Liberia Guanacaste Airport in Costa Rica (or SJO, remember to add on ground transport for that airport at checkout).  You can take off all those layers of winter clothes, it’s always summer temperatures here in Costa Rica!  Pass immigration and get your passport stamp from Costa Rican authorities, grab you bag and meet your private transport to the hotel in Playa Tamarindo!

~6 pm Oceanfront Happy Hour & Welcome Meeting

Grab dinner with your hosts or do your own thing – our trips are SUPER flexible so you are never expected to be with us 24/7.

Departures for LIR Airport (SJO airport departures may be as early as 4 am unless you’re staying an extra night in San Jose – which we can help organize, remember to include the add on for transport to/from SJO if needed)

It is not set in stone and is only meant to give you a general idea of the basic itinerary of included items.  You can see there is SO much free time and flexibility for you to do your own thing or add extra activities if you are interested.  You will receive a final personalized detailed itinerary based on your chosen included activity, dates, lessons for the appropriate tides/swells, and any add-on activities  one week prior to your arrival (at the latest).

  2. Choose the Poolside Lagoon rooms instead of the Sunset Ocean View rooms to save money on this camp!

Sunset Ocean View for Beachfront Bliss – 2 Queen beds / sleeps max 4 (for 1-2 guests, 1 King bed may be requested instead, but cannot be guaranteed)

Unforgettable ocean and sunset views right from your room!
This is the more expensive of the two room options offering ocean views and sunset over the water.  It is in front of the beach & close to the breakfast buffet, beachfront pool and main lobby.

Lagoon Pool/Garden view, in a Pre-Columbian Costa Rica style!
This is the option that allows the best bang for your buck with a max of 4 people.  You’re in a gated area of the property, steps from both the adults only and exotic lagoon pool with swim up bars!

Can I add extra activities to my surf camp in Tamarindo?

Absolutely!  After you book your camp, we will send you a list of options and pricing for activities /services you can choose to add on to make your Tamarindo surf camp even BETTER!  Some past surf camp activity options include:

Can I extend my stay before or after surf camp?

Free trip extension assistance

We provide our Costa Rica Build Your Own Trip planning services free of charge ($250 value) to our guests who book a Sámara Surf Camp and need our help to extend on the front, back, or BOTH ends of your trip!

What are my extension options?

The sky is the limit!  Many guests choose to extend their Sámara surf camp for more time in the water with our amazing team at the beach, while others opt to head to the rainforest, cloud forest, volcano, another beach, or multiple destinations!  We are known for our custom trips, so whatever you’re dreaming of: we can make it happen!

Which international airport is closest to Tamarindo Surf Camp?

The airport included for roundtrip ground transportation is Liberia – Guanacaste – Daniel Oduber (LIR).

Anyone choosing to fly into/out of San Jose – Juan Santamaria (SJO) will be responsible for additional transport costs and should plan to arrive at least one day early to provide ample time to arrive for the Welcome Event.

Is Tamarindo Surf Camp all inclusive? / Can I get lunch & dinner included?

No, this is not an all inclusive resort/package.  Despite having multiple restaurants nearby and multi-course meals included for prior trips, we removed this from our base packages after feedback suggested our guests preferred the option to explore local restaurants for their lunch & dinner meals on their own!  Please let us know if you have any concerns, we are happy to help make sure you are comfortable with your stay!

Tamarindo Surf Camp Cancellation Policy

Your Surf Camp in Tamarindo has two parts:

1) Non-refundable: $250

  • This deposit is non-refundable if you cancel your trip at any point in time after receipt of payment in order to cover the administrative needs related to registration, planning, & processing.

2) Refundable Balance (with 60 day notice)

  • Aside from the $250 non-refundable payment, the balance of the surf camp payment is refundable for cancellations requested by email to CRsurftrip@gmail.com by 11:59 EST at least 60 days prior to arrival.
  • Within 60 days of Surf Camp Start Date, balance payments are non-refundable.

If we must reschedule Surf Camp for alternate dates for unexpected reasons out of our control:

If you CAN make the rescheduled dates:

Your payments will be transferred to those dates and any difference in price will either be charged to you (in the case of an increase in price) or returned to you (in the case of a decrease in price).

If you can NOT make the rescheduled dates:

Your payments may be used as a credit available for 1 year from the original trip date.
