Not only is Sámara Surf Camp just 100m from the beach, it is also tucked away from the street with a private pool just for hotel guests, lush gardens for lounging, and a traditional rancho where a buffet breakfast is served daily. The connection to nature is undeniable. We believe you don’t have to be removed from society to relax and unwind, as long as you’re in the right spot to mix culture with nature.

We provide our
Costa Rica Build Your Own Trip planning services free of charge ($250 value) to our guests who book a Sámara Surf Camp and need our help to extend on the front, back, or BOTH ends of your trip!
What are my extension options?
The sky is the limit! Many guests choose to extend their Sámara surf camp for more time in the water with our amazing team at the beach, while others opt to head to the rainforest, cloud forest, volcano, another beach, or multiple destinations! We are known for our custom trips, so whatever you’re dreaming of: we can make it happen!
Which international airport is closest to Sámara Surf Camp?
The airport included for roundtrip ground transportation is Liberia – Guanacaste – Daniel Oduber (LIR).
Anyone choosing to fly into/out of San Jose – Juan Santamaria (SJO) will be responsible for additional transport costs and should plan to arrive at least one day early to provide ample time to arrive for the Welcome Event.
Is Sámara Surf Camp all inclusive? / Can I get lunch & dinner included?
No, this is not an all inclusive resort/package. Despite having multiple restaurants nearby and multi-course meals included for prior trips, we removed this from our base packages after feedback suggested our guests preferred the option to explore local restaurants for their lunch & dinner meals on their own! Please let us know if you have any concerns, we are happy to help make sure you are comfortable with your stay!
Sámara Surf Camp Cancellation Policy
Your Surf Camp in Samara has two parts:
1) Non-refundable: $250
- This deposit is non-refundable if you cancel your trip at any point in time after receipt of payment in order to cover the administrative needs related to registration, planning, & processing.
2) Refundable Balance (with 60 day notice)
- Aside from the $250 non-refundable payment, the balance of the surf camp payment is refundable for cancellations requested by email to [email protected] by 11:59 EST at least 60 days prior to arrival.
- Within 60 days of Surf Camp Start Date, balance payments are non-refundable.
If we must reschedule Surf Camp for alternate dates for unexpected reasons out of our control:
If you CAN make the rescheduled dates:
Your payments will be transferred to those dates and any difference in price will either be charged to you (in the case of an increase in price) or returned to you (in the case of a decrease in price).
If you can NOT make the rescheduled dates:
Your payments may be used as a credit available for 1 year from the original trip date.

What to expect on day 1 of Sámara Surf Camp
Hop on a plane to Liberia / Guanacaste Airport (LIR). As your flight approaches, you can see the crystal clear waters and the lush landscape everywhere!
On arrival in Costa Rica, you can already feel the tropical heat and warm breeze. Your private transport awaits you for a direct transfer to your hotel room at surf camp in Sámara. Enjoy the view from your room overlooking an exotic garden and freshwater pool. You are just steps from the beach!
Drop your bags and head to your welcome meeting where you’ll find your trip leaders are friendly and knowledgeable locals ready to help you have the best week ever! Enjoy the first afternoon and evening just getting the feel for your home for the week of surf camp in Sámara and drift off to sleep, excited for what’s to come!
What to expect during Surf Camp in Sámara
The next 5 days you and your new Sámara surf camp friends will have group surf lessons or surf trips with local professionals who are not only experienced surfers, but are also patient, friendly, and fun teachers! They help beginners learn all of the basics to get you set up for success and work with you each day to improve your technique and build on your skills, giving you foundations you’ll need for a lifetime of surfing! Advanced surfers will hit the road to practice your technique on more challenging waves!

In your off time from surf camp in Sámara, there are PLENTY of options to fill your time! We will send you a list of optional add-ons after you register for camp!

About the town of Sámara
This small town that still has it’s traditional Costa Rican flare – and hasn’t been completely overcome by big chains or foreign businesses (yet). We love it that way and it makes this Sámara surf camp unique compared to other camp locations in Costa Rica. This location is the home base of Costa Rica Surf Trip where we started, and is where many national champions, members of the Costa Rican national surf circuit and even members of national surf teams first learned to surf!
